Thjazi, one of the Jotuns of Jotunheim, was by nature a storm giant and no particular friend of gods or men. He kidnapped Idun (with the aid of Loki) out of greed for her golden apples (which would keep his storms ever young and fresh), but Idun was counter-kidnapped by Loki. Thjazi pursued in the form of an eagle, but his wings etc. were burned by the gods who considered the apples their own.
And what does he have to do with this site? Good question.
|Strictly speaking, this is one of
Arthur Rackham's illustrations
for the Ring of the Nibelungs, so this
must be Freia, who was kidnapped
by Fafnir and Fasolt, not Thjazi. The
golden apples are the same, though.
